The title of my sculpture is Family on Wheels. It is 17” tall by 4” wide.

  • Lego Train Car
  • Old can covered in paper
  • Reversible jelly ball
  • Paper Clips
  • Pennies
  • Finger Trap
  • Star Wars Spoon
  • Bouncy Ball
  • Crazy Bouncy Ball
  • Erasers
  • Putty Applier
  • Dice
  • Legos

I assembled my sculpture with a hot glue gun. I took everything I had gathered and just started stacking and combining items. I didn’t want to overthink the project, but rather add items where they fit best.

My main goal was to combine something from each member of my family. For example, the paper clips and dice are my brothers, my youngest brother donated the legos, can and crazy bouncy ball. The pennies came from my mother, my father gave the Putty Applier. I used the star wars spoon to represent my husband. The number 4 also represents my husband, myself and our two dogs.

I had a great time creating this sculpture. There was no goal in mind except to create an abstract sculpture with something from everyone in my family.  The experience was fun because I was able to play around with the different objects and do things I have always wanted to – like building a penny pyramid.

I didn’t use everything I wanted to use because I felt the sculpture was completed with what I had added. Also, I had some difficulties getting everything balanced. My base was great, but I originally wanted the sculpture to fan out more than it did. It wasn’t an option, so I played with the different pieces and came to a better overall solution.

I actually really love the way the sculpture turned out. I love that every piece has a meaning behind it and I love that the top is so awkwardly balanced. I did my best to create different lines, especially diagonal lines to show the movement and togetherness of the sculpture. I would not change anything because I am happy with how it came together.
